What are smart materials ?

Smart materials are responsive complex materials, a collection of stacked layers, responsive mainly to curvature and ambiante occlusion nodes and maps creating dirt, edge scratches, worn surfaces and corners, dusty surfaces and corner " automatically " utilizing the informations generated by the model topology throught those nodes.

These materials are widely used in the gaming industry and Films CGI when texturing a UVWunwrapped model.

Why V-Ray Smart Materials :

Vray is the most used render engine in the world, and when poeple are trying to make photoreal renders in both archviz or movies CGI, they want those extra details on their models to make them feel real.

In order to do that, they go throught the process of UWVunwrapping their models, baking maps, and painting them using third party software like Substance or 3DCoat, which takes a lot of time to do, then exporting those maps that are unique only to that specifique model.
